Certificate of Good Standing explained
A Certificate of Good Standing demonstrates that a company has been in continuous, unbroken existence since its incorporation and that the company continues to conduct business in a completely legal manner in compliance with the regulatory body that is responsible for exercising authority over the company.
A Certificate of Good Standing is acquired by a business entity to prove that they are incorporated and authorized to do business. The Certificate indicates that an entity is conducting business in place with the filing requirements of the regulatory authority, along with ensuring that all financial activity is carried out in compliance with that body.
The Certificate of Good Standing is generally only required once the company has been incorporated and is operational for a period of time. This certificate is required in order to obtain certain documents, for example to renew a license or undertake particular business transactions.
